In April 2011, I gave birth to my first child, a beautiful baby boy. At the time, I was working 40 hours a week, and a 3 month maternity leave felt like it would be plenty of time at home with my baby. I was devastated though, when that time came and went. After three months of juggling work and motherhood, my amazing, wonderful, selfless husband encouraged me to leave my job and be a stay-at-home mom.
I knew that I wanted to do something on the side though, so I began brainstorming. After a few weeks of weeding out ideas and dreaming big, Knits 'n Bits was born. It was the perfect idea! My mother had made some beautiful items for the baby while I was pregnant, such as booties, blankets, hats and cuddle sacks. I loved them all, and got so many comments on them while out and about. She could re-teach me to knit and sew! And Alan, my husband, is a computer wizard and was looking to gain experience in web design so he volunteered to create a site for me to sell my items. Did I mention that he has a heart of gold?
So here we are! Mary (my mom) is a knitting machine, and is always finding new things to make and patterns to learn. I knit and sew whenever I have a few spare moments, mostly during nap times and after my little man has gone to bed. I am happier than I have ever been. It feels wonderful to be able to spend so much time with my son, yet still have something that I can call my own. Well, with a little bit of help, of course. :)
